Lord Hanuman is a vanara, a devotee of Rama, and one of the central characters in the epic Ramayana. Amongst the Hindus of India, it is a very popular belief that chanting the Hanuman Chalisa invokes Hanuman's divine intervention in grave problems, including concerning evil spirits. He is considered to be an avatar (incarnation) of the god Shiva. There are 2 couplets at the beginning and one couplet at the ending between 40 verses of Chalisa.
