Troubled with the present scenario, stiff competition and rampant unemployment, many job seekers are still struggling to find a route to make professional inroads. However, a few among them are still managing to get hired or promoted not because if their technical expertise or degree, but because of interpersonal and communication skills, often denoted as “soft skills”. This does not mean you have to be an excellent speaker or writer. It does mean you have to communicate well, express yourself well, whether it is just  writing a logical note, persuading others with a presentation or just being able to calmly explain to a team member what you need.

Soft skills are clusters of personal attributes and qualities that help employees work well with team member and encourage productivity within the workplace. And these sorts of skills may be more important than people ever realize. A recent study conducted by American Express and Millennial Branding showed that 60-61% of managers surveyed, felt that soft skills were comparatively more important in new hires than technical skills or hard skills. In fact, the other important research study showed that the top characteristics managers looked for when hiring candidates or promoting the current employees were a positive attitude, the Presentation skills, the ability to communicate at work and teamwork skills.

Here are some areas every Job seeker should focus on:

 ·         Communication- Able communicators can easily adjust their tone and style according to their audience; comprehensively and efficiently explain complex issues to colleagues and clients alike. Communication is an important aspect of leadership as well, since leaders must be able to delegate comprehensibly and clearly.

·         Teamwork and Team-building- Like communication and management, good teamwork also involves a combination of other soft skills. Being able to work as part of a team shows one's ability to collaborate and complete work-related tasks, which is a trait, often sought after by hiring managers and employers. Good team players are perceptive, as well as receptive to the requirements and responsibilities of others. Team players also show their ability to work in a team towards a common goal which requires the interpersonal and intuition acumen.

·         Time Management- Time management is the process of planning over the amount of time spent on specific activities - especially to increase efficiency, effectiveness or productivity. Team players must have time management strategies so that they should focus on their tasks to achieve better results. It can help you to get things done more efficiently to avoid stress and work overload. Time management is a great professional development skill to have and it will help you throughout the career.

·         Flexibility- Those who want to survive in the high-tech platform and modern workplace need to be flexible with their key duties, responsibilities and schedule, and to constantly be able to think on their feet.  Both job seekers and employees need to always keep upgrading their skills in order to be able to cope with all kinds of challenges in the professional surroundings.  Employers often seek candidates who can show an enthusiastic and upbeat attitude, since many jobs required such qualities or traits.

·         Problem-solving- The skill to use previous experience, intellectual, creative, and all available resources to solve any problem is very desirable as it saves everyone precious time. Problem solving requires a particular mindset: those who can approach a problem with a cool head will often reach a solution more efficiently than those who can’t.

·         Confidence - Confidence is an essential tool when it comes to winning over both clientele and co-workers.  If you believe you can actually do something, there is nothing which can stop you from actually doing it. With this positive attitude or approach, you will be able to overcome any challenges and eventually grow as a professional.  The right body language and eye contact can easily persuade the hiring manager and win over both Team member and clients in the future.

Currently, those who are interested in landing a good job must have a handful of soft skills. Whether it is practicing effective verbal communication, being firmly positive at work, or learning to work enthusiastically in groups or teams, honing soft skills is likely a good investment.  And the good news is that, like any skill, soft skills can also be learned
